The canyon is two lanes with no shoulder and it crosses Mulholland at the top, which is where a wet evening or a downed branch adds ten minutes to the same trip. At the bottom it turns into Beverly Drive, so a Flats address is a straight run in, while Trousdale and Benedict Canyon mean climbing back up to a gate at the end of a private drive.

What should I put on the table next to the boil?
Not much. Sweet corn boils in the same seasoned water and a jar of chickpeas rides along, so the table really only needs bread for the butter and something sharp and cold. If the evening is on a Trousdale patio, order mild and salt-light so a mixed table can eat it, and keep the shells out of the disposal.
