Atwater lives on 90039, the ZIP it shares with the east edge of Los Feliz, and it is one of the shortest runs we make on this side of the river. We cover Glendale Boulevard end to end, the Casitas Avenue blocks and everything down to the river path. The crawfish stay live in the tank until your order lands, and the pot goes on after it does.

Atwater orders by weight rather than by set. The single-story houses off Casitas Avenue come with a back patio and a folding table, so four or five pounds of Greek crawfish, plus shrimp, corn and a jar of chickpeas, is the shape of a normal order here. The rental houses near the river path order smaller: two pounds, no ceremony, eaten standing at the counter.

ZIP codes we deliver to in Atwater Village

The 2 comes down through Glendale and puts the driver straight onto Glendale Boulevard, about a 10-mile drive from the kitchen in Sun Valley and typically around 20 minutes. Short trip, so the boil barely cools. After the off-ramp it is one street the whole way: south on Glendale Boulevard, then a turn into the Casitas Avenue grid, where the house numbers run in order and nobody is hunting for an entrance. At dinner time the hold-up is the boulevard itself — a left across oncoming traffic can cost more than the last mile did.

Every tray is sealed at the pot and rides out in an insulated carrier, so the drive costs the boil as little heat as it can.

Your boil, your call

Pick a heat level, from No Heat to LA Inferno. Then salt: light, regular or extra. Every item on the menu is finished the way you asked, not the way the pot ran that night.

Atwater is flat, and that changes the whole evening. Most houses here are single story with a driveway and a back yard, so the tray gets dumped on a folding table outside instead of taking over the kitchen. Sunday morning the farmers market fills the lot and the river path fills with riders; by evening the same crowd is ordering four pounds and eating in the yard. Leave the porch light on and the driver finds you faster.

What we boil

Every order ships with gloves, crab crackers, scissors, a table cover and a shrimp deveiner.

Questions people from Atwater Village ask

When is the best time to order here on a weeknight?

Before six or after eight. The 2 stacks up on its way down to the Glendale Boulevard exit at the tail of rush hour, and that exit is the last mile of our run to you. Weekends invert it: Saturday afternoon drives clean, and on Sunday the only slow stretch is Glendale Boulevard itself around the farmers market.

How do I reheat a boil the next day, and how long does it keep?

Keep the bag sealed, refrigerate it within two hours, and eat it inside two days. Reheat it in a covered pot over low heat with a splash of water, or steam it. Never the microwave, which turns crawfish tails to rubber. Cold snow crab straight from the fridge is a fine breakfast on a Casitas Avenue patio.

How far in advance should I order for a large group in Atwater?

Twelve people or fewer, the same day usually works: call in the morning and the pot goes on that afternoon. Over twelve we ask for 48 hours so the tank is stocked. For a back yard on Casitas Avenue, give us the hour you actually sit down, not the hour guests arrive.
